Hitachi gets high techy with Hitachi High-Tech, which makes manufacturing equipment used in semiconductor production, such as chip mounters and etching and inspection systems; analytical and clinical instruments, such as electron microscopes and DNA sequencers; manufacturing equipment for flat-panel displays (FPD), liquid crystal displays (LCD), and hard disks; and metrology and inspection equipment. The company also sells steel, plastics, silicon wafers, fine chemicals, optical components, and automotive-related devices and materials. Hitachi High-Tech generates 42% of its sales in Japan. Hitachi owns nearly 52% of the company's stock.
